This is the big one and it is structural rather than a gap we intend to close. A rewrite reads your sentences and produces different sentences. Whether those sentences establish anything — whether the evidence supports the claim, whether the counter-argument is addressed, whether the third paragraph follows from the second — is a property of the whole document that no sentence-level operation can see.

The practical effect surprises people. Rewriting a weak essay frequently makes the weakness more visible, because the padding that was obscuring it is gone. Three flat paragraphs announcing that a topic is important read as filler; the same content compressed into four clear sentences reads as an essay that has not made its case.

It cannot check a fact
